I have a boost program that turns it off, so I just start it up again and no problems. also when i restart the computer other computer can ping but when my system starts, the same problem again occured. Ten computers can see each other and four can see each other but the two groups cannot see each other. I went to Reports and Logs in Mcafee Security Center. It can still access the internet with no problems at all.

WinXP and Vista machines have different default workgroup names. I ran www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html on my XP machine and it screwed up a firewall settings. This protocol must be installed in order to be able browse for it from My Network Places. The vista sort of sees the xp, but cannot connect to it yet even though file sharing is turned on the xp and the vista.
It took me almost a week to get everything working right.
